Whatever happened to Lakewood Fairgrounds? Whatever happened to Lakewood Fairgrounds? ABATE of Georgia held Bike Show and Swap Meets there for over 22 years. (Click here to see pics of last show November 2006). Unfortunately Lakewood closed in 2006. We miss it and can never duplicate it but we do have our events at another great venue: The Atlanta Exposition Center North. The same place that Scott Antique Markets hold their Antique shows each month. The address is 3650 Jonesboro Road SE, Atlanta, GA 30354. Take I-285 exit 55 and the North building is on the West side of I-285. Our next Bike show and Swap Meet is November 2, 2008. Other events held at this location besides ABATE of Georgia’s Bike Show and Swap Meets and Scott Antique Market Shows include: The Buckarama, The Blue Knights Silent Auctions, The Cherokee Rose Cluster Dog Show, etc. For more information please visit www.scottantiquemarket.com. NOTE: We will be in a new location for the 2009 events - The North Atlanta Trade Center. Now, back to whatever happened to Lakewood Fairgrounds. The last that ABATE heard is what we found on the web from the November 22, 2005 Issue of City Newsbytes. Click here to read the article. Not being an Atlanta Native I tried to put together some history of this wonderful landmark. If you have items to add about any history of Lakewood, please e-mail me at info@abatega.org. Please read the article below written by Eddie Samples and is titled “Lakewood – Indians to Artifacts”
